During its Dragon Ball panel at New York Comic Con 2023, Toei Animation unveiled a teaser trailer for an all-new series titled Dragon Ball Daima, which will be released sometime next Fall 2024.
The new anime will mark the franchise’s 40th anniversary after the release of the original manga series in 1984.
Toei Animation also confirmed that series creator Akira Toriyama is heavily involved in the new anime’s production and has written entirely new storylines for the episodes. Toriyama is credited with the original work, story, and character design.
Dragon Ball Daima will follow Goku, Vegeta, Bulma, and other characters who have all reverted back to their younger selves. The trailer showcases previous works in the Dragon Ball franchise before highlighting the younger versions of the main characters. The storyline for Daima will be different from the similar one followed in Dragon Ball GT.
The Dragon Ball series first began with the original manga by Toriyama that ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from November 20, 1984 to May 23, 1995. Another currently serialized midquel manga series titled Dragon Ball Super was released on June 20, 2015.
The franchise has inspired two popular TV anime series that aired from 1986 to 1996, as well as several anime films, soundtracks, video games, TV specials, and many more.
The most recent film, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, was released in Japan on June 11, 2022 and was released on Crunchyroll on July 12, 2023. It made US$102.5 million worldwide and is the fourth highest grossing anime film in the U.S.
