Sanrio has revealed its month-long celebration plans for Kuromi, which includes a Friday the 13th (2PM to 5PM) meet and greet at Hot Topic’s Irvine Spectrum location and the annual #KUROMIFYTHEWORLDWEEK promotion.
Kuromi/Sanrio fans can expect a mix of virtual and physical offerings, with the latter including Hot Topic’s My Melody x Kuromi Lolita collection, the launch of MetaZoo Games’ Kuromi’s Cryptid Carnival introductory trading card gaming set at New York Comic Con, and new Build-A-Bear Kuromi and Baku plushies. The former, which will be available online and in select stores, includes apparel, handbags, accessories, beauty products, and Funko Pop! vinyl figures.
In the virtual realm, the recently released Hello Kitty Island Adventure life simulation game will have the “Kuromi’s Spooky Celebration” event, bringing in features like player-owned cabins, new haunted mansion mysteries, fresh outfits and furniture, and the addition of Baku as a permanent visitor who can be attracted with “an especially Spooky cabin.” Meanwhile, Roblox‘s My Hello Kitty Cafe will have new updates like a Kuromi mini game and Kuromi-themed cosmetics and events.
On Sanrio’s end, there are plans for social media activations (including Tuesday Instagram giveaways) and weekly Kuromi-themed content (like a multi-part Hello Kitty and Friends Supercute Adventures Halloween episode) on YouTube, as well as Kuromi-centric Japan Originals collections on its online shop. The latter includes the Mystic Mansion series, which debuts on October 6, and the Fancy Ribbons series, which debuts on October 13. The Fancy Ribbons series features items like plush toys and accessories rather than literal ribbons.
Also on the agenda:
• Four new “Halloween-inspired live action supercute tasty recipes and spooky crafts”
• Limited-time “Kuromi surprises” at The Hello Kitty Cafe’s Las Vegas locations (The Park MGM and Fashion Show) from the second week of October to the 31st (her birthday). Mentioned are Kuromi Ube Tres Leches Cup, a Kuromi shaped chocolate sugar cookie, and a special Kuromi treat bag.
To wrap things up, the Kuromi’s Pretty Journey animated web series, which premiered its English dub on June 27, will release its final episode on the Hello Kitty and Friends YouTube channel on October 31.
