Attack on Titan‘s genocidal main character Eren Yeager is set to appear on NHK this month in a special episode of the Japanese broadcaster’s The Way of the Professional (Shigoto no Ryuugi) programme.
The Eren special, which marks the first interview with an anime protagonist in the programme’s history, will premiere on October 23 at 11:45 PM JST. The Way of the Professional is described as a programme that “takes a detailed look at the pursuits of experts at the top of their game to find out how they come up with the ideas that they do, what kind of trial-and-error process they endure to achieve success, and what route they will take next, given the issues that prevail in the world today.”
In a blog post about the Eren special, NHK wrote: “What does Eren seek, and what is he continuing to struggle against? Also, what is Eren’s idea of a ‘professional’?!”
The Eren interview is a prelude of sorts to the upcoming second part of Attack on Titan Final Season The Final Chapters, presumably the final installation of the anime, which will debut on NHK on November 4 (effectively November 5 at 12 AM JST). A second trailer was released last month.
Attack on Titan is based on the manga series by Hajime Isayama, which ran in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shounen Magazine from 2009 to 2021 and concluded with a total of 34 tankoubon volumes (a “volume 35” will be included in an upcoming art book). The anime began airing in 2013 with WIT STUDIO as the animation production company. Attack on Titan Final Season, the multi-part final stretch of the anime, began in December 2020 and is produced by MAPPA instead.
Crunchyroll describes the synopsis of Attack on Titan Final Season The Final Chapters as:
The fate of the world hangs in the balance as Eren unleashes the ultimate power of the Titans. With a burning determination to eliminate all who threaten Eldia, he leads an unstoppable army of Colossal Titans towards Marley. Now a motley crew of his former comrades and enemies scramble to halt his deadly mission, the only question is, can they stop him?
