The second cour of The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 will arrive sometime in 2024, it has been revealed. A teaser visual for the new cour, based on the scene shown in the final moments of the first cour’s final episode, was also released.

The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 originally began its broadcast in January, but a postponement led to the anime restarting in July. Crunchyroll and Bilibili streamed the show outside of Japan. The split-cour format was revealed as early as 2022.

The anime is based on a light novel series written by Shuu with illustrations from Yoshinori Shizuma. J-Novel Club describes the light novels as:

Tired of ceaseless war destroying humans, spirits, and demons alike, the Demon King of Tyranny, Anos Voldigoad, reincarnates to restore peace. Two thousand years have passed…but who could have known that his descendants’ complacency would cause magic to regress so much? After receiving an invitation to the illustrious Demon King Academy, a school tasked with locating the reincarnated founding ancestor, Anos resolves to enroll, only to discover that his magic is off the charts—literally! With power too great to be measured, the former Demon King is branded a misfit. How will he convince demonkind that the school’s founder stands before them? Thus begins a misfit’s climb to the top of the demon hierarchy!

Masafumi Tamura (The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in a Different World as an Aristocrat) directed the anime with Shin Oonuma (Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA Licht Nameless GirlDeep Insanity: The Lost Child) as chief director,  Kazuyuki Yamayoshi (Deep Insanity: The Lost Child) as character designer, Jin Tanaka (Laid-Back Camp Season 2) as series composer, and Keiji Inai (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 4) as music composer. SILVER LINK is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the main cast includes Yuuichirou Umehara as Anos Voldigord (replacing Season 1’s Tatsuhisa Suzuki), Tomori Kusunoki as Misha Necron, and Yuko Natsuyoshi as Sasha Necron.

The light novel series, which is published under KADOKAWA’s Dengeki Bunko label, began in 2018 and has 18 volumes (including two-parters) as of September 2023. It inspired a Square Enix-published manga adaptation by the late Kayaharuka and a KADOKAWA-published manga anthology by various artists. The story began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2017.
