In commemoration of its third anniversary, the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! mobile rhythm game has received a music video featuring the song “NEO.”

The third anniversary music video is storyboarded and directed by illustrator and animator Tsuda, whose past credits include Mafumafu‘s ”Seishun Kippu” music video and Amane Kanata‘s “Betsu Sekai” music video. The character designs are by Joon, who also served as animation director with niL

All three are part of the animation creation team studio matomo, which is credited with the video’s animation production and color design. Folium’s Yuuga Kai (Prima Doll) is the compositing director.

Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!, or Project Sekai Colorful Stage Feat. Hatsune Miku, was first launched for iOS and Android on September 30, 2020 before getting a Western release in December 2021. The game is a spin-off of Sega‘s Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA series. Its story premise is described as:

A mysterious song named “Untitled” with no melody or lyrics is passed around amongst the youth in Shibuya, Tokyo.

This song unlocks access to “SEKAI”, a mysterious place that allows everyone to discover their true emotions and their own song

The game sees various virtual singers, including the eponymous Hatsune Miku and the duo Kagamine Rin and Len, serving as advisors to several bands of young performers. One of these bands is Leo/need, which is getting a story digest animation soon as part of the game’s third anniversary festivities. Outside of the core rhythm gameplay, the game has features like band and music video customization, character levelling and upgrades, and character cards.
