The upcoming third season of KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! has received a short trailer that mostly revisits past moments and provides a very small sneak peek of the new season’s footage. The video also comes with entertaining English-language narration.
Aside from the trailer, there are also new cast announcements in the form of Sayuri Yahagi as Claire, Kanon Takao as Iris, and Reina Ueda as Rain.
KonoSuba Season 3 will return Kazuma and his eccentric party to the small screen sometime in 2024. Kouichi Kikuta and Makoto Uezu are returning as character designer and series composer, respectively, but the show is now directed by Yuujiro Abe (Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Season 1 and Season 2 episode director) and produced by Drive. Previous director Kanasaki Takaomi is now involved as chief director.
The first two seasons (from 2016 and 2017 respectively) were produced by Studio Deen, while the KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World Legend of Crimson movie (2019) was produced by J.C.STAFF.
KonoSuba is based on the isekai comedy light novel series written by Natsume Akatsuki and illustrated by Kurone Mishima, which ran from 2013 to 2020 with 17 main volumes and two short story anthologies. Yen Press describes the books as:
Game loving shut-in Kazuma Sato’s life as a young schoolboy in Japan abruptly comes to an early end…or at least it was supposed to. When he opens his eyes, though, he sees a beautiful goddess that offers him a once in an after-lifetime chance to be reborn in a parallel world. The catch is that the world is violent and threatened by a growing evil! Fortunately, he can choose any one thing to bring with him. So he chooses the goddess, Aqua! And so his adventure with his gorgeous companion begins–if he could just get enough money and food to survive, keep his goddess out of trouble, and avoid grabbing the attention of the Demon King’s army!
The light novels, which are published under the KADOKAWA Sneaker Bunko label, have inspired a manga adaptation by Masahito Watari and several spin-offs, while the anime led to the release of several KonoSuba video games. The story began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2012.
An anime adaptation of the Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! spin-off aired during the Spring 2023 anime season.
