Netflix has released a trailer for the upcoming anime adaptation of Capcom‘s Onimusha video game series. A visual, November 2 premiere date, and cast details were also revealed.

The cast members are:

Akio Otsuka as Musashi Miyamoto
Toshihiko Seki as Kojiro Sasaki
Hochu Otsuka as Kensuke Matsui
Daiki Yamashita as Sahei
Subaru Kimura as Goro-Maru
Katsuyuki Konishi as Heikuro
Kazuyuki Okitsu as Kaizen
Makoto Furukawa as Gensai
Aya Yamane as Sayo
Ryohei Kimura as Iemon

The Onimusha anime was announced last September during Netflix’s Tudum Japan livestream. Prolific live-action director Takashi Miike (Audition, 13 Assassins, Ichi the Killer, Blade of the Immortal) is serving as the anime’s chief director, with Shinya Sugai (Dragon’s Dogma) sitting in the traditional director’s seat. Sublimation is the animation production company.

Netflix describes the premise as:

This ambitious series will focus on Miyamoto Musashi, who is modeled after Toshiro Mifune, the Japanese film icon known around the globe. This is the beginning of an intense series full of realistic action in which Musashi’s blade slices through evil as he traverses a land plagued by poverty.

The Onimusha video games began with 2001’s Onimusha: Warlords, which received a remaster in 2018. The Onimusha entries are primarily hack-and-slash affairs that infuse Japanese history with supernatural elements. However, there are also deviations from the gameplay formula like the Gameboy Advance-exclusive tactical RPG Onimusha Tactics. The Onimusha: Warlords remaster, which was released internationally for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019, is currently the latest entry in the series.
