A January 12 Japanese premiere date has been announced for The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash. A key visual for the anime adaptation was also released.
The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash is based on the TO Books-published light novel series written by Honobonoru500 and illustrated by Nama. The series began in 2019 and has nine volumes as of June 2023.
Seven Seas describes the story as:
In Ivy’s world, stars are everything. She’s a Tamer, born to subdue monsters and animals, but she was also born starless! With her life in danger, Ivy flees into the forest where she befriends a weak little slime named Sora—the one creature she can tame. Together, the unlikely pair set off on a journey, salvaging rubbish to survive. Along the way they’ll win hearts, evade danger, and discover there’s more to starless Ivy than meets the eye!
Naoki Horiuchi (Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song- Episode 3 and 7 director, The Demon Girl Next Door Season 2 Episode 3 director) is directing the anime at STUDIO MASSKET with Shigeyasu Yamauchi (A Town Where You Live director) as chief director. Other staff include:
• Series composer: Katsuhiko Takayama (The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat)
• Character designer: Fengcheng Hu (“Let You Down” animation director)
• Character designer: Yuki Ikeda (WAVE!! Surfing Yappe!! chief animation director)
• Music composer: Kujira Yumemi (Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible)
Aina Suzuki is voicing protagonist Ivy while Mutsumi Tamura is voicing Sora, a slime that Ivy befriends.
The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash light novels have also inspired a manga drawn by Tou Fukino, a TO Junior Bunko label version, a drama CD (which also featured Suzuki as Ivy), and a 2023 calendar. The story was written as a web novel that began publication on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2018.
