A new film visual and main trailer has been revealed for the upcoming Phoenix: Reminiscence of Flower anime film. It is scheduled to premiere on November 3, 2023.

The 4-episode ONA series Phoenix: Eden17 will have a different ending from the anime film and is now streaming on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ elsewhere.

Both the film and series are inspired by Osamu‘s Tezuka’s unfinished Phoenix manga, which had 11 tankoubon volumes published between 1954 and 1988. The manga series, which features different stories and time periods, was previously adapted into radio dramas, a live-action film, anime films, games, and a 2004 anime series.

Reminiscence of Flower and Eden17 share the same production staff. It includes Shoujirou Nishimi (Mutafukaz co-director, Batman: Gotham Knight “Have I Got a Story for You”) as director, with Tatsuzou Nishita (Summer Wars action animation director) as character designer and chief animation director, Shinji Kimura (Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko) as art director, and Takatsugu Muramatsu (Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko) as music composer. Studio 4°C is the animation production company for both the ONA series and film.

Meanwhile, the voice cast features Rie Miyazawa as Romy, Yousuke Kubozuka as George, Honoka Yoshida as Com, Issey Ogata as Zadaban, Ryouhei Kimura as Cain, and Shintarou Asanuma as Makimura.

Disney+ describes the synopsis of Phoenix: Reminiscence of Flower as:

In the age of space exploration, Romi and her lover George flee a devastated Earth in search of a new world for just the two of them, settling on planet Eden17. However, it turns out to be a desolate planet unsuitable for human habitation. After losing George in an accident, Romi is determined to survive with her son Cain and enters a hibernation pod. When she awakes 1,300 years later, she finds that Eden is now home to a thriving city built by the descendants of Cain and the alien life-form known as Moopy. Romi lives there as a queen, but as she ages, her longing for Earth grows stronger. One day, a child of Eden named Com acknowledges Romi’s feelings and resolves to embark on a journey to take her to Earth.
