The upcoming After-school Hanako-kun short anime series has received a trailer, which includes a preview of newly announced ending song “Koi! Koi Koi.”

“Koi! Koi Koi” is performed by Akari Kitou, as her character Nene Yashiro, and Yuri Yoshida, Chitose Morinaga, and Mai Kanazawa as the Mokke.

Additionally, it was announced that Chika Anzai and Daichuu Mizushima are reprising their roles as Sakura Nanamine and Natsuhiko Hyuga, respectively, from the 2020 Toilet Bound Hanako-kun series.

After-school Hanako-kun is set to premiere on October 12 (effectively October 13 at 1:58 AM JST) in Japan and on October 10 at 11:00 AM PT on Crunchyroll. The series will air across four weeks, with each episode being 10 minutes long. The anime is based on the manga of the same name, which is a spin-off of Aidalro‘s Toilet Bound Hanako-kun supernatural comedy manga.

The After-school Hanako-kun manga began serialization on Pixiv in 2018 and ended in 2021, with its contents collected into one volume. The main Square Enix-published series began serialization in Monthly G Fantasy in 2014 and has 20 tankoubon volumes as of August 2023. Yen Press describes the latter as:

The ghostly Hanako-kun and his mortal assistant, Nene Yashiro, usually have their hands full resolving various supernatural incidents in Kamome Academy, but how do they spend their time when they get a break from all that? Come and watch the characters of Toilet-bound Hanako-kun play games, get sick, change genders, and discover world-shaking secrets during their laid-back after-school hours!

The After-school Hanako-kun anime is directed by Masaki Kitamura (Mobile Suit Gundam 00 assistant director) with writer Kazuma Nagatomo (Re: Zero Startling Life in Another World: Death or Kiss game staff; Seitou Kaichou to no Machiawase wa, Itsumo Hotel author)) as series composer, and Aya Higami (High Card prop desginer and animation director) as character designer and chief animation director. Studio Hibari‘s Lerche brand is credited for the animation production company, with the production being mainly handled by Studio Hibari’s Osaka location.

Some of the returning cast members include:

• Megumi Ogata as Hanako-kun
Akari Kitou as Nene Yashiro
• Shouya Chiba as Kou Minamoto
• Yuuma Uchida as Teru Minamoto
• Minako Satou as Aoi Akane
• Shunichi Toki as Akane Aoi

After-school Hanako-kun is labelled as the first part of a Toilet Bound Hanako-kun anime project; an anime project “restart” was announced last December. The 2020 Toilet Bound Hanako-kun anime was directed by Masaomi Andou (Rumble Garanndoll, Scum’s Wish) at Lerche.
