The subtitle of the upcoming new Black Butler anime series has been revealed to be Kishuku Gakkou-hen (Public School Arc). A key visual depicting the characters known collectively as the P4 was also released.

Black Butler: Public School Arc will premiere sometime in 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming outside of Japan. It is based on the Square Enix-published dark fantasy manga by Yana Toboso, which previously inspired three seasons, a two-episode OVA, and the Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic movie. The first Black Butler season aired in 2008, while the movie was released in 2017.

Yen Press describes the manga as:

Just a stone’s throw from London lies the manor house of the illustrious Phantomhive earldom, its master one Ciel Phantomhive. Earl Phantomhive is a giant in the world of commerce, Queen Victoria’s faithful servant . . . and a slip of a twelve-year old boy. Fortunately, his loyal butler, Sebastian, is ever at his side, ready to carry out the young master’s wishes. And whether Sebastian is called to save a dinner party gone awry or probe the dark secrets of London’s underbelly, there is practically nothing Sebastian cannot do. In fact, one might even say Sebastian is too good to be true . . . or at least, he is too good to be human . . .

Black Butler: Public School Arc is produced by CloverWorks instead of A-1 Pictures. The staff includes Kenjirou Okada (March Comes in Like A Lion series director) as director, Hiroyuki Yoshino (Black Butler: Book of Circus) as series composer, Yumi Shimizu (Locodol) as character designer, and Ryou Kawasaki (To Your Eternity) as music composer.

Maaya Sakamoto and Daisuke Ono are reprising their roles as Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian Michaelis, respectively.

The Black Butler manga began in 2006 and has 33 tankoubon volumes as of July 2023. It is serialized in Monthly G Fantasy.
