The second season of Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World is no longer set for a 2023 premiere, with the anime’s X (formerly Twitter) account announcing that the sequel will now begin its Japanese broadcast sometime in 2024.

Season 1 of the anime will be rebroadcast from October 2 (effectively October 3 at 1:30 AM JST) in Japan to “commemorate” Season 2’s 2024 release. Additionally, it was announced that the show’s image song, “REVERSI” (performed by ALiA’s AYAME), will go on sale on October 4.

Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World season II was announced in October 2021. The first season of Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World aired in 2020’s fall anime season with 12 episodes. The main staff included Mirai Minato and Shin Oonuma as directors, Kento Shimoyama as series composer, and Kaori Sato as character designer and chief animation director, while the main cast included Yuusuke Kobayashi as Iska and Sora Amamiya as Aliceliese Lou Nebulis. SILVER LINK produced the show.

The anime is based on the KADOKAWA-published light novel series written by Kei Sazane and illustrated by Ao Nekonabe, which began in 2017 and has 18 volumes (including short story anthologies) as of June 2023. The Fantasia Bunko series has also received a manga adaptation by okama, which ended in 2021 with seven tankoubon volumes.

Yen Press describes the premise of the light novel series as:

For years, a great war has raged on between the scientifically advanced Empire and a paradise of witches known as the Nebulis Sovereignty. This age-old battle sets the scene for a fateful encounter between two young combatants: an imperial swordsman, Iska, and the witch princess, Aliceliese. As sworn enemies, they vow to cut each other down in order to unite their worlds, and yet Iska finds himself entranced by her beauty and righteousness, while Aliceliese is moved by his strength and resolve. In the midst of a never-ending war that forbids them from being together, they have no choice but to destroy each other—or can they find another way?
