The second season of the new Urusei Yatsura anime will begin airing in January 2024. A key visual was released with the announcement.
The first season of Urusei Yatsura premiered in October 2022 and ran for 23 episodes. The anime, which adapts selected portions of Rumiko Takahashi‘s 1978 manga, will have four cours in total.

The manga was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday and ran until 1987. Viz Media describes the plot as:
In a high-stakes game of tag, Ataru must touch Lum’s horns in ten days—or aliens will take over the earth! The fact that Lum can fly doesn’t make Ataru’s job any easier. As it turns out, the game of tag is only the beginning of Ataru’s troubles, as he continues to attract strange encounters with otherworldly beings like beautiful snow spirit Oyuki and the sexy crow goblin Princess Kurama!
The new Urusei Yatsura anime is directed by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind‘s Hideya Takahashi and Yasuhiro Kimura with Yuuko Kakihara (The Aquatope on White Sand) as series composer, Naoyuki Asano (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!) as character designer, and Masaru Yokoyama (Aoashi) as music composer. david production is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Hiroshi Kamiya as Ataru Moroboshi, Sumire Uesaka as Lum, Maaya Uchida as Shinobu Miyake, Mamoru Miyano as Shutarou Mendou, Wataru Takagi as Cherry, and Miyuki Sawashiro as Sakura.
Urusei Yatsura previously inspired an anime series in the 80s, followed by multiple movies and OVAs. Before the 2022 series, the most recent Urusei Yatsura anime was an OVA released in 2010.
