Maon Kurosaki, who performed songs like “ROAR” from A Certain Magical Index III and “UNDER/SHAFT” from Jormungand: Perfect Order, passed away on February 16 following the worsening of a chronic disease. She was 35.
A statement from ART ONE Entertainment, which Kurosaki joined last year, noted that her passing was sudden. Both parties had been discussing Kurosaki’s schedule and future songs for summer and beyond. A mini live performance and Grisaia talk show (Kurosaki sang the opening songs for The Fruit of Grisaia and The Eden of Grisaia anime) was scheduled to be held on March 11 as part of Animachi Recreation 2023.
A wake with only close relatives in attendance was held for Kurosaki.
Kurosaki’s first anisongs were for 2010’s Highschool of the Dead, with the singer performing all of the show’s 12 ending themes (one for each episode). Some of her other anisongs include “Magic∞world” (the first ending for A Certain Magical Index II), “SCARS” (the ending for Hellsing: Ultimate IX), “Last Desire,” (the opening for Rewrite 2nd Season), and “Harmonize Clover” and “Afterglow” (both ending songs from School-Live!).
Kurosaki’s last anisong was “more<STRONGLY,” the ending theme of the Fall 2022 anime Reincarnated as a Sword. It was her 18th single.
In addition to her solo activities, Kurosaki was part of the three-person unit ALTIMA (which suspended activities in 2016) and the two-person unit ALICes. Kurosaki’s fellow ALICes member, Sayaka Kanda, passed away at the age of 35 in December 2021 after being found in an outdoor space of a Sapporo hotel’s 14th floor.
