Yasutaka Tsutsui‘s Paprika novel, which previously inspired an anime movie, is getting a new adaptation in the form of a Western live-action series, Deadline has reported. Cathy Yan (Birds of Prey) is directing and executive producing the show.
Amazon Studios and Hivemind are reported to be involved with the series as well.


The Paprika sci-fi novel was released in 1993 after a great number of earlier novels and short stories by Tsutsui, including The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. The anime film adaptation, which was directed by the late Satoshi Kon (Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, Paranoia Agent) and produced by Madhouse, was released in 2006.
